Beach Days

Te Arai and Forestry Beaches are on a beautiful stretch of coastline, located ninety minutes drive north of Auckland. Here are some things you can do here:

  1. Surf - Te Arai is known for its great surf, so if you're an experienced surfer or want to try it out, give it a go.
  2. Swim - The beach is long and sandy with clear blue water, making it a great spot for swimming. You do need to be mindful of rips and large waves, so look after yourself.
  3. Explore the rock pools - At low tide, you can explore the rock pools in the headlands and see all sorts of marine life like crabs, starfish, and small fish.
  4. Walk the beach: Take a stroll along the beach and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You can either walk down to the golf courses, or walk over the headlands (to find other beautiful beaches) or even adventure and find the hidden lakes - good luck!
  5. Walk your dog - At Forestry beach, dogs are welcome. Te Arai is designated for humans only.
  6. Play beach sports - Bring a ball and play beach volleyball, frisbee, or even cricket.
  7. Picnic - Bring a picnic lunch or dinner and enjoy it on the beach while taking in the views.
  8. Horse riding - There are bookable horse riding tours, which leave from Pakiri and can take you along the beautiful Te Arai beaches.
  9. Go fishing -Te Arai is a great spot for fishing, with snapper and kingfish being popular catches. Or simply watch all the new technology fishermen bring - drones and all!
  10. Camping - There is a Camper van park (bookable via Auckland Council) on the left of Te Arai beach, self contained Campers only. This is a great place to stay if you want to spend a few days enjoying all the activities on offer.

We are a group called
LOVE TE ARAI

Founded in our community, we have banded together to preserve and enhance the natural ecology of the Te Arai region.
As a group, we help trap pests, do regenerative planting, treat kauri for dieback, monitor rare birds (Fairy Tern, Australasian Bitterns), and remove plastic from our beaches.
We are involved in caring for Te Arai so people who venture to our beautiful regional park, beaches, walking tracks, golf courses, horse riding trails, and events can enjoy the pristine environment.
